Andrew Maioli was born and raised in Medford, Massachusetts: a suburb of Boston. Throughout his youth, Andrew had an intense curiosity about the world around him and developed a strong appreciation for the arts: particularly painting. The museums of Boston offered an abundance of inspiration, and he would visit them often. Encouraged by his grandmother who painted in oils, Andrew pursued this interest throughout his younger years and into high school. Circumstances beyond his control, however, did not make formal study in art an option for Andrew. Instead, he attended the University of Massachusetts in Boston where he earned degrees in economics (BA) and chemistry (BS). Andrew found the geometric shapes and formations of organic chemistry particularly fascinating and in 1999 he earned his PhD in bioorganic chemistry from Brandeis University.
For several years after graduate school, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow, then a staff scientist and, ultimately a senior scientist for a small biotech company in Worcester, MA. Painting, however, was never far from Andrew’s mind or heart and, in 2004, fate intervened; he had the opportunity to move to Henderson, NV and pursue his dream of painting.
Shortly after moving to Nevada, Andrew began self-study and sought out art classes to develop his skills further. He got involved in local art associations, interacted and befriended local painters and began to develop his own style and perspective. Understanding that the craft is never mastered, Andrew continues to pursue master classes and information on form and technique from a host of mediums. Andrew enjoys working in all media, but has focused on acrylics the past few years. His subject matter is varied and includes land- and seascapes, wildlife, and non-objective. His art works have been displayed in the Las Vegas area since 2006, and have been on view in local art galleries including the Canyon Ranch art walk in the Venetian Hotel. Collectors of his work reside in California, New England and Nevada.
Andrew is a member of the following southern-Nevada Art organizations:
- Vegas Artist Guild
- City Lights Artist Coop
- The Contemporary Arts Center
- Henderson Art Association (HAA)
From 2006-2010, Andrew served as gallery director for the HAA.
Currently, Andrew has launched a new collection of acrylic paintings called Maioli Brews. These whimsical paintings bring to life a world where Beer reigns supreme and is defended, enjoyed and rejoiced over by animated pretzels and peanuts. Whether you enjoy an Amber Brew or Light Brew, these characters create a surrealistic world that is sure to make you smile. His love of nature and majestic settings is also featured in this collection in a series of paintings called Dark Brews. Whatever your flavor, the works are meant to make you laugh, think and marvel at a world that seems too good to be true… and many of them will leave you longing for a nice cold one!
